Kaylena is the little girl right near the edge in front of the boy in blue. Although the beginning was a bit rough and included yelling, screaming, kicking and taking swings at her teacher....she eventually decided to get in- but stayed disjointed from the class as did this other boy who came later and was hesitant to get in the water.
She was doing really well at first. We had talked about how dance class was over, and so now we're going to a swim class that has a new teacher and new friends. We talked about how she was going to swim and I was going to watch, then when it was over, she would get out, and we'd leave. So when we got there, we found her class lined up at an orange square on the poolside. She only held on to my hand for a minute, but then saw that there were other girls and boys like her, so she quickly let go and seemed more relaxed. The teacher even got everyone in a line and she was totally listening (as much as a 3 1/2 year old does) and totally into it. They lined up to get help into the pool- which was actually a little stand so that they could "touch bottom" and hang on to the side. The class had about 12 and she was number nine. She watched 8 kids ahead of her get in the pool and was scooting up with the line and kept smiling at me when she turned around. Then, right after the girl in front of her went- another class said, "excuse me!" and the teacher took her older class right in front of Kaylena, causing a delay. Well, I guess that threw her off because once the older class cleared (they had probably about 20) and Kaylena was up, she was going to have NO part of it. So, the three kids behind her went, the teacher tried to convince her to go in.....and...well... let's just say about 30 minutes into it she was eventually IN the pool, but didn't want anything to do with anyone. I'm thinking that Thursday will go much better- and was glad that Joseph got to hang out with his buddy Hyrum because the screaming might have been doubled if I had had both... :) |
